This collection of information represents almost 40 years of note-taking. It focuses on rabbinic responsa from eastern Europe from approximately 1550 until the mid-seventeenth century. There are also references to ethical literature, talmudic commentaries, communal ordinances, and some secondary literature. The file may be downloaded and used free of charge.

The subject headings in the database are highly idiosyncratic and should not be construed as anything other than a reflection of my interests, many of which have changed over time. It is presented to users “as is,” with mistakes, oversights, and typographic errors. I am happy to receive corrections at the e-mail address listed below. The file will be updated occasionally and re-posted as I read or reread material. The database version is reflected in the date at the beginning of the file and is included in the running header.

The editions used are listed at the beginning of the file. Since I began reading these texts, new editions have been released. I have not attempted to update my reference list because the references to section numbers (simanim) remain valid in almost all cases.

Citations are incomplete; one must look up the source to understand the context, the meaning, and the significance of the material.

I have some additional files that are not formatted for Word. These included notes on Rabbi Solomon Luria’s Yam shel Shelomoh, the responsa of Rabbi Nathan Neta Kahana of Ostrog (Dibrey Renanah), and a few other odds and ends. If this is of interest to you, please get in touch with me.

כותרות הנושא במאגר הן מאוד ייחודיות ואין לראות בהן שום דבר מלבד שיקוף של תחומי העניין שלי, שרבים מהם השתנו עם הזמן. הוא מוצג למשתמשים 'כפי שהוא', עם טעויות, החטאות ושגיאות דפוס. אשמח לקבל תיקונים בכתובת המייל הרשומה למטה. הקובץ יעודכן מדי פעם לפעם ויפורסם מחדש תוך כדי קריאה החומר מחדש. הגרסה של הנתונים משתקפת בתאריך בתחילת הקובץ ונכללת בכותרת הריצה בראש כל עמוד.

מהדורות הספרים שבהן השתמשתי רשומות בתחילת הקובץ. מאז שהתחלתי לקרוא את הספרות הזאת, יצאו מהדורות חדשות. לא עדכנתי את רשימת הפניות שלי, כי כמעט בכל המקרים ההפניות למספרי סימני הספרים נשארות בתוקף.

הציטוטים אינם שלמים ויש לעיין במקור כדי להבין את ההקשר, את המשמעות המלאה ואת המשמעות של החומר.
