Research Question and Query Construction

Steps for writing an academic paper:

Choosing the topic of the work, finding a suitable research question, locating relevant databases and performing a search to find suitable academic sources.

Example:

The subject of the work: films and tourism to Hollywood.

Research question: Is there a connection between the American film industry and tourism in Hollywood?

Keywords:

  • travel
  • trip
  • Hollywood
  • movie industry
  • motion picture industry

Please note: when searching in databases it is not necessary to use link words such as "connection", "impact" and the like.

Nowadays there is an overload of information, so it is better to perform a more accurate and effective search in the databases and the library catalog by using the Boolean rules:

AND, OR, NOT

OR: use of synonyms - A or B:

travel or trip

AND: connection between keywords - A and B:

movie industry and trip

NOT: Do not include the word - A not B:

travel not tour

OR

Using synonyms - A or B

travel OR trip

AND

Connection between keywords - A and B

movie industry AND trip

NOT

Exclude the word - A not B

travel NOT tour
