Journal Ranking

Journal Impact Factorundefined

Journal Impact Factor (JIF) is an index that allow to compare journals using citation data. The IF identifies the frequency with which an average article from a journal is cited in a particular year. The numerator looks at citations in a particular year to a journal's previous two years of content.

For example:

IF 2019 =    Citation in 2019 ti items published in 2017+2018                                                                                                                                             Number of citable items in 2017+2018

The data of the IF is based on the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) database, a sourced from Web of Science (WOS) database. JCR enables you to identify journals with high impact factors, understand the ranking of journals within a subject category.

Should be taken into consideration:

  • The index does not examine the effect of the individual article
  • The division into high and low IF indicates the dynamics of quotes in a particular research area
  • The IF is calculated based on quotes from the previous two years

Other metrics based on citations in other databases:

Journal Quartiles (Q)undefined

A journal's quartile ranking is determined by comparing a journal to others in its category. The categories are ranked by number of journals available in each category, If a journal falls in Q1, it means that the journal performs better than at least 75% of journals in that category, based on its Impact factor score.

Should be taken into consideration:

  • The index is only relevant for one year and in a particular research category
  • The value of the quarters of the journal varies from database to database
